Customize your coverage template
Every org reads a little differently. Your coverage template controls the shape of the document (top-sheet fields, grid categories, the rating scale, and verdict labels) and you can tailor it per format (feature, pilot). Owners and execs manage templates from Settings → Coverage templates.
What you can change
- Top-sheet fields: drag to reorder, add, or remove the metadata fields at the head of the document.
- Grid categories: rename, add, or remove the rows readers grade (premise, plot, character, dialogue, and so on).
- Rating scale: edit the scale labels (for example an excellent-to-poor range).
- Verdict labels: the canonical values are Pass / Consider / Recommend, but you can set the display labels your org uses, like "Low Consider."
A live preview pane renders a sample top sheet as you edit, so you can see the result before saving.
Keep separate templates per format. A pilot top sheet and a feature top sheet often want different fields; set a default template for each submission type.
Changes apply to new coverage only
This is the important rule: template edits affect only coverage created afterward. Existing coverage keeps the template snapshot it was written on, so a signed document never silently changes shape when you tweak the form later.
Because each coverage carries its own snapshot, you can evolve your template freely without worrying about rewriting history, but that also means older coverage won't pick up new categories retroactively.

Common questions
Will changing a verdict label rewrite old verdicts? No. The underlying value (pass/consider/recommend) is stable; you're only changing how it's displayed on new coverage.
Can readers edit the template? No. Managing templates is limited to owners and execs.
